Oldies Show will be 20 Oct. 2018 at Danville High School with one show at 7:00 p.m.  The presenters will be “Dennis Tufano former lead singer of the Buckinghams and the Reflections” whose hit was “Just Like Romeo and Juliet”.   Price is $20.00 per ticket which can be purchased at the door.

Tufano, a native of Chicago, is the original “voice” of The Buckinghams, a Chicago-based group that scored with a string of five Top 10 hits in the late-1960s, including “Kind of A Drag,” “Don’t You Care,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song,” “Susan” and “Back In Love Again.”

Following his success in that group, Tufano was part of the song-writing duo Tufano and Giammarese and recorded three albums with Lou Adler’s custom label, Ode Records. Appearing as guest vocalist he went on to co-write with renowned composer and musician Tom Scott. With Scott as composer, Tufano performed the “original title/theme song” for the long running “Family Ties” television show (first 13 episodes).

He also wrote the music and performed with Bernie Taupin, Elton John’s lyricist, on Taupin’s album, “He Who Rides The Tiger.” Subsequently he teamed again with Taupin to co-write, co-produce and perform the Farm Dogs album “Last Stand in Open Country.”

The Detroit-based The Reflections were a five-man, “blue-eyed soul” group schooled in doo wop who scored in 1964 on Ed Wingate’s Golden World label with “(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet,” written by Bob Hamilton and Freddie Gorman. Gorman later wrote songs for Motown, including “Please Mr. Postman” and “Forever” and formed The Originals, who hit with “Baby I’m for Real.”

The group’s first recording was a remake of the Five Satins’ “In the Still of the Night” on Tigre, which did well in some Midwestern markets. Their Golden World debut, “(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet,” cracked the Top 10 before settling at the number six position.
